Olalekan Adetayo, Abuja
The Ondo State Governor-elect, Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, on Wednesday said he did not acknowledge a national leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, in his victory speech on Sunday because it was not expedient to do so.
He said having acknowledged President Muhammadu Buhari who is the recognised national leader of the party and the National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, it was safe to infer that he had acknowledged all party leaders.
Akeredolu said this while answering State House correspondents’ questions shortly after he and his deputy, Mr. Agboola Ajayi, met Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
They were led to the meeting, which was their first after their victory, by the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress Campaign Council in Ondo State, Governor Simon Lalong.
The governor-elect who said the relationship between him and Tinubu was cordial explained that mentioning the name of the former Lagos State Governor specifically would have amounted to him mentioning names of about 37 other leaders of the party.
He said, “On the names that were mentioned in my speech when expressing gratitude and that I didn’t specifically thank Bola Ahmed Tinubu. I thanked the President and the leader of our party profusely for the leadership which he showed leading to this election.
“I also thanked our indefatigable chairman for standing by the truth and for his position on this matter that led to this election. I have no reason to do otherwise.
“Party structure to the best of my knowledge is very clear. You have the leadership of the party and that is represented by Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.
“After the election, a chief executive emerges, he becomes a leader of the party, you don’t have to personalise and be looking for leaders all over the place.
“If we have to do that, then I will have to mention 36 or 37 leaders. So I believe the leadership as represented by the President covers all leaders and that tells me it would include Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, it would include even Baba Akande, Onu, and so many leaders.
“But President Buhari is the leader of the party. So, that is my position there.”
Akeredolu however added that Tinubu remains one of the leaders of the party, noting that he has since sent congratulatory message to him after he won the election.
“For me as a person, I believe he is one of the leaders of the party and I don’t see any strain relationship between us. And you would observe that he has sent in his congratulatory message after the election, so what else do you expect?
” I mean all of us see this as victory for the APC, not for Akeredolu, not for us an individual but for the party as a whole. I believe he is a member of the party. Mr. Femi Adesina had issued a release but you journalists just want to put words into our mouths,” he said.
Akeredolu also said despite his decision not to probe the administration of the outgoing governor, Olusegun Mimiko, he would not close his eyes if he stumbled upon any established cases of wrongdoing in the course of carrying out his responsibilities as the governor.

Sucking breasts, licking semen can give you HIV
Do you love to suck the breasts of a lactating woman during sex? While this is ordinarily harmless, do you know the HIV status of the woman?
Again, if you’re the type of woman who sucks dry a man after sex, you may be exposing yourself to high risks of contracting HIV!
And, do you use syringes or other sharp objects that have been used by other people? Then you risk HIV infection if you don’t stop!
This is because, in addition to many other avenues through which people can become infected with HIV, these two activities, though they give pleasure, can get you infected with HIV if your partner is infected!
Experts warn that HIV can be transmitted in the sexual fluids, blood or breast milk of an infected person.
How can you protect yourself? This way:
Abstinence for youth, including the delay of sexual debut and abstinence until marriage
Being tested for HIV and being faithful in marriage and monogamous relationships
Correct and consistent use of condoms for those who practice high-risk behaviours. http://punchng.com/sucking-breasts-licking-semen-can-give-hiv/

Southampton defeats Arsenal in League Cup
Southampton dealt Arsenal a shock defeat in the English League Cup quarter-finals on Wednesday as goals from Jordy Clasie and Ryan Bertrand earned Claude Puel’s side a 2-0 win.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had been hoping to win the competition for the first time, but instead his decision to make 10 changes backfired as Southampton ended his side’s 19-game unbeaten run.
Southampton, who also eliminated Arsenal from the competition two seasons ago, reached the semi-finals after losing their last six last-eight ties in the competition.
Puel’s side join Liverpool, Hull City and either Manchester United or West Ham United — who were facing off in Wednesday’s other quarter-final — in the draw for the last four.
Dutch midfielder Clasie’s blistering drive put Southampton ahead in the 13th minute at the Emirates Stadium.
England left-back Bertrand added a second seven minutes before half-time, gathering Sofiane Boufal’s pass and rifling a shot into the bottom corner.
Mohamed Elneny was the only player to have kept his place from Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Sunday, but he succumbed to injury before half-time and was replaced by Granit Xhaka.
It was Arsenal’s first defeat since a 4-3 loss at home to Liverpool on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Goals from Ibra & Martial sees Man Utd through
Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Anthony Martial scored twice as
Manchester United crushed West Ham United 4-1 in the League Cup
quarter-finals on Wednesday, while Arsenal were unexpectedly humbled by
Southampton.
United manager Jose Mourinho served a one-game touchline ban after his dismissal for kicking a water bottle during Sunday’s 1-1 Premier League draw against West Ham, but his absence had no ill-effects.
Ibrahimovic put United ahead in the second minute and although Ashley Fletcher equalised, Martial’s second-half brace restored the hosts’ control before the Swede added a fourth goal in added time.
United, who have made their worst start to a top-flight campaign since 1989, joined Southampton, 2-0 victors at the Emirates Stadium, Liverpool and Hull City in the draw for the semi-finals.
The game at Old Trafford notably saw Bastian Schweinsteiger
make his first appearance of the season for United as a late substitute.
The former Germany captain has only recently returned to the first-team squad after being frozen out by Mourinho and received a huge ovation as he came on.
West Ham had needed less than two minutes to take the lead in Sunday’s game, but on this occasion United were the early birds.
Wayne Rooney’s clever reverse pass picked out the advancing Henrikh Mkhitaryan and the Armenian’s alert back-heel freed Ibrahimovic to lift the ball past West Ham goalkeeper Adrian.
West Ham levelled in the 35th minute with a bolt from the blue as David de Gea spilled Dimitri Payet’s shot and former United youngster Fletcher tucked in his first senior goal in front of the Stretford End.
Fortunately for United, they started the second half as sharply as they had attacked the first, a move down the right culminating in Mkhitaryan squaring for Martial to sweep home.
West Ham’s cause was not helped by the fact they lost both wing-backs, Aaron Cresswell and Michail Antonio to injury, and after Adrian had saved from Martial and Ibrahimovic, it was 3-1.
Ibrahimovic was the architect with a fine pass down the inside-right channel for Antonio Valencia, whose cross was tapped in by Martial.
Ibrahimovic doubled his tally in the 93rd minute, slotting in Ander Herrera’s low cross from the left.
The only source of regret for United was a booking for Rooney that rules him out of Sunday’s trip to Everton, nixing his hopes of scoring a club record-equalling 249th goal against his old side.

Ambode wants local artisans to outdo foreign experts
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State
says his administration will boost the skills of artisans in the state
to make them have an edge over their foreign counterparts.
The governor, who also granted approval
for the training of 1,500 artisans in the state, spoke at the 7th
Tradesmen and Artisans’ Week and graduation of retrained artisans and
traders. He added that his administration recognised the contributions
of the informal sector as the vehicle of growth and economic
development.
The governor expressed confidence that
with the vigorous training which the graduate trainees had been exposed
to, the desire for foreign expertise would be reduced to the barest
minimum.
He said, “Our administration recognises
artisans as major players and the conveyor belt for industrial
enterprise in the country. We shall work to develop programmes to boost
artisans’ skills and capacities.
“The government of Lagos State is
passionate about this sector which has been demonstrated by the various
programmes anchored by the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment in
collaboration with other agencies.”
Ambode said genuine and credible members
of the Lagos State Council of Tradesmen and Artisans (LASCOTA) would be
able to access soft loans from the already inaugurated N25bn
Empowerment Trust Fund.
“This government will not sit and wait
for oil prices to rebound in the international market before arriving at
a solution to our challenges,” the governor added.
Ambode urged the newly trained artisans
to take advantage of the robust economic potential of Lagos State, being
the fourth largest economy in Africa, to market their goods and
services, adding that the training was designed to provide skills
required to service the industrial needs of the state.
The Commissioner for Wealth Creation and
Employment, Mr. Babatunde Durosinmi-Etti, said the 500 trained artisans
successfully completed an eight-week intensive training sponsored by
the state government in 19 different trades and vocations.
He added that since the inception of the
training, over 10,000 artisans had benefited from the gesture aimed at
promoting innovations and healthy rivalry among Lagos artisans and their
counterparts elsewhere.
The Director of Entrepreneurship
Development in the Ministry of Wealth Creation and Employment, Mrs.
Taiwo Abiose, said the long-term intention of the government was to make
it compulsory for all artisans willing to operate in the state to be
duly registered with the ministry for easy coordination of their
activities.

Fayose May Dump PDP In 2018 Ekiti Election
EKITI 2018 POLL: Fayose drops bombshell, says he may dump PDP
Ado-Ekiti-In a bid to avoid the political booby trap that threw the succession plan of Governor Olusegun Mimiko into disarray and eclipsed the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the just concluded Ondo governorship election, Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, hinted Wednesday on the possibility of using another platform to prosecute his succession battle during the 2018 governorship poll . \
Fayose, who dropped the hint in Ikere Ekiti while meeting with the members of the Suppliers’ Association of Nigeria, Ikere chapter, said “I don’t know the platform I will use for the 2018 election yet and at the appropriate time, I will tell you”. Fayose “We are still studying the situation . We have to play the game left, right and centre and whoever we are going to use and the platform, you will all be part of the process because party politics is about the people”.
Fayose also said the victory of Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress(APC) in the Saturday’s governorship poll in Ondo State does not in any way threaten the popularity and general acceptability of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in Ekiti. The governor, who described Akeredolu’s victory at the poll as a contrivance of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in cahoot with APC, added that the victory the did not confer legitimacy on the poll or lent credence to the fact that Ondo electorate had voted rightly. “You all saw how people sold their votes in Ondo state, I am confident that that will not happen in Ekiti.
I am close to the people you are the source of my strength . Even if it requires just 48 hours to any election, if I tell you where to go, you will surely follow me there”, Fayose said. At a separate meeting with the junior staff of the state civil service, Fayose boasted that he will repeat the 16-0 he meted out to Ex-governor Kayode Fayemi in 2014, where he defeated the incumbent in all the sixteen local governments .
He promised that he would continue to do his best in the payment of salaries by carrying the workers along to know what accrues to the state from the federation account, adding that there won’t be communication gap once his government doesn’t operate in secrecy. “APC will be fooling itself if it thinks it will conquer Ekiti like it did in Ondo . Ekiti is a peculiar place and I am the man on ground here. I want to assure my supporters and Nigerians that APC won’t win a local government here in 2018, even if President Muhammadu Buhari moves down all the money in FG’s TSA.
“Governor Olusegun Mimiko and Eyitayo Jegede must have lost in Ondo State, but that does not mean the people had voted rightly. In 2015, people clamoured for change and what have we got now? Nigerians are becoming poorer than ever. “Today, I am the only one among the APC governors in the southwest .
I am now like the nation of Israel surrounded by enemies, but I shall defeat and triumph over them. “APC has never defeated me in any battle, either political or legal. Whether they like it or not, I will win in Ekiti no matter the animosity , because I have the people behind me”, Fayose declared.

Ways to Stay Hydrated (Besides Water)
Do you drink enough water? Some people forget to drink it, are too busy, or just don’t like the taste. You might want to rethink this if you feel tired, lightheaded and experience headaches throughout the day. You might be dehydrated.
Why is dehydration something to avoid? Our body is composed of nearly seventy percent water and it is found in every one of our 100 trillion cells. Water regulates body temperature, lubricates your joints and aids in the digestion process. So, without the essential fluids needed for our body to run smoothly, organs can become damaged and systems don't function properly.
If you have a hard time drinking water and would prefer some healthy alternative ways to hydrate your body, here are some options. There is no true substitute for water, but these are a good way to supplement your fluid intake.
When it comes to a sweaty workout, we love a water break reward as much as the next fitness fiend. But as the mercury rises, it’s more important than ever to focus on our fluids all day long. After all, water is the most essential nutrient our system needs.
Our bodies are made up of more than half water and we use it for pretty much every bodily function — from regulating body temperature to removing waste to lubricating joints to carrying oxygen to the cells.” says Rachel Berman, a registered dietician and senior director of content at Verywell. “That’s why you feel so fatigued, dizzy and moody when you’re dehydrated.”
While it’s true a tall glass of water is the best known way to stay hydrated, there are plenty of alternative options if you don’t like the taste of tap or couldn’t be bothered with bottled water. Sure, you can infuse plain ol’ drinking water with flavorful fruits like lemons and raspberries. But you can also reach for some of these water-rich foods and fluids that keep the H2O balance just right — and won’t require so many trips to the water cooler!
1. Watermelon
In the world of thirst quenchers, watermelon weighs in as a major contender. Based on its name, it’s no surprise this fruit is made up of 92 percent water! But its salt, calcium and magnesium is what makes it ideal for rehydration, according to a 2009 study at the University of Aberdeen Medical School. The summertime staple is also a good source of potassium, vitamin A and vitamin C.
2. Celery
This often-overlooked veggie is way more than chicken wing garnish! Celery stalks are about 95 percent water, high in fiber and rich in minerals including potassium and vitamin K. Keep in mind, “they’re not packed with nutrients, but that’s also because they’re not calorie-dense,” says Berman. “Plus, it’s nice to add a bit of crunch [for texture].”
3. Cucumbers
No matter how you slice ‘em and dice ‘em, cucumbers keep cool at the number one spot on the list of water-logged fruits and vegetables. Composed of 96 percent water, cukes have no saturated fat or cholesterol, and are very high in vitamin K, vitamin B6 and iron. Cucumber and melon bites, anyone?
4. Strawberries
Even without the shortcake, strawberries are a sweet treat perfect for staying hydrated. They are 92 percent water (the most of any berry) and are loaded with fiber and vitamin C — as if you needed an excuse to sip on this refreshing summer cocktail!
5. Lettuce
Iceberg lettuce may be 96 percent water, but it’s not known for much else in the nutrition department. Richer salad greens and sandwich toppers including butterhead, romaine and spinach are more well-rounded choices and still up your hydration. Need some inspiration? Start with these creative, healthy salads.
6. Fat-free or skim milk
Everyone knows milk is an excellent source of calcium that will keep your bones in tip-top shape. But research also shows milk is better than water and sports drinks for rehydration and recovery after exercise (yup, especially chocolate milk). Just be sure to choose a slimmed-down carton since the fat in whole milk can delay fluid replacement.
7. Smoothies
Can’t choose just one hydrating option? Slurping down a DIY smoothie is a great way to combine your favorite flavors into one nutritionally-packed glass. “And it only takes seconds to scarf down!” says Berman. Try drinking your fruits and veggies with these healthy (and tasty) green smoothie recipes.
8. Sports drinks
Sugar and sodium are good things when it comes to sports drinks! In addition to the electrolytes and protein included in most on the market, the sugar and sodium can bring your body back to balance faster than water after a grueling workout lasting over 90 minutes. For shorter workouts, sports drinks may just mean a lot of extra carbs you don’t need. To cut some calories (and save some money), make your own sports drinks at home.
9. Coconut water
There’s a reason people go nuts for this tropical drink. Unlike sports beverages, coconut water is low in carbohydrates, while still rich in potassium. And its unsweetened varieties can be very hydrating (assuming you like its unique taste). According to a study in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, the all-natural beverage is effective in rehydrating after light exercise. But for more rigorous sweat sessions, the low-sodium drink does come up short in replenishing the salt your body loses.
10. Coffee
Isn’t coffee a diuretic? Well, yes, but a recent study in PLOS ONE debunks the myth that it also causes dehydration. Not only will your daily cup contribute to your water needs, coffee can also give you a sharper memory, boost athletic endurance and performance, and reduce the risk of many serious ailments including diabetes and heart disease.
How Much Water Do We Really Need?
Whether you eat it or drink it, don’t stop ‘til you get enough. According to Berman that’s not as simple as the old-school “eight glasses a day” rule we were all taught.
“It’s not the recommendation,” she says. “But it’s also not that far off. For women, it’s about 11 cups and for men it’s about 15 cups. But remember, that includes 20 percent from food.”
When you’re exercising, you should be sipping even more for optimal performance, Berman adds. “It’s variable based on your bodyweight and how intense you’re working out, but the American College of Sports Medicine recommends 16 to 20 ounces at least four hours before exercise and three to eight ounces every 15 minutes during exercise (especially in hot temperatures).”
If you’re working out at a high intensity, Berman says to weigh yourself before and after exercise to get a more accurate idea of how much water you’re losing. “For every pound lost, you’re supposed to drink 20 to 24 ounces,” she says. “It’s a good mental trigger to remind yourself to keep drinking.”
Most of us need this reminder, as we may not even realize we’re dehydrated — until it’s too late. While common signs of dehydration include fatigue, headaches, nausea and dizziness, Berman says the best (and easiest) way to see if you’re getting enough water is to take a peek at your pee.
“Your urine should be a pale yellow color,” she says. “If it’s darker than that, drink some water. If you’re not getting up and running to the bathroom every hour, you’re not drinking enough. That’s the telltale sign.”

The only PDP Senator from Ondo State decamps to APC
Senate President Bukola Saraki on Wednesday announced the defection of
Yele Omogunwa, a senator from Ondo south, from the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Until his defection, Omogunwa was the only PDP senator from Ondo state.
Ajayi Boroffice, a senator from Ondo north, and Tayo Alasoadura, a senator from Ondo central, are APC members.
Speaking after the announcement, Godswill Akpabio, senate minority leader, said since Omogunwa had defected to the APC, his seat ought to be declared vacant.
He asked Saraki to declare Omogunwa’s seat vacant.
But Saraki declined, and ruled him out of order.
The senate, thereafter, erupted in a cacophony.
Senators who are members of the PDP then walked out of the chamber.
Speaking with journalists after the action, Akpabio said the senate caucus would work with the leadership of the PDP to ensure that Omogunwa’s seat was declared vacant.
”We walked out to protect the sanctity of democracy. Our protest is in line with the law,” he said.
“The supreme court has settled the issue there is no division in the PDP, so there is no need for a defection. So, Omogunwa should hand over our seat while he goes to support the APC in Ondo state.”

Vector writes open letter to the Federral Government, says they are 'killing the future of Nigeria'
This open letter was written to the Federal Government by rapper
Olanrewaju Ogunmefun, 'Vector', in protest of the planned data rate hike
enforced by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) . Read after the cut...
Dear Federal Government,
You have come a long way with your policies and rule. You have concerned yourself with nothing but the present hence making it look like the constitution has to be remixed and renamed "Your WILL" before your demise. You have ignored the children you saw grow and focused on the ones from your sperm cells and ovulation that you aren't seeing grow because they have been shipped off to "better grounds" for education. You have put your wives in other rooms BUT that of importance forgetting (if you married a good woman) they balance you when you go astray. You have failed to embrace the spirit and letter of the Almighty you worship be it any religion. You have failed the man you see in d mirror because he isn't a beast or metaphysical begin you don't understand. No, He is the poster boy/girl for greed. You have forgotten how you felt when you were coming up but remember this... you will not forget how you fall. Your money... my bad... our money you take will shame you when you need it the most. The hustling are finding ways to be better but you just want to take from them without giving back. You focus on chasing thieves but never focus on securing the vault they steal from. In the history of our existence as a generation, we have never gotten leveled platforms to play as we have gotten with the internet. The people have become more exposed to business ideas, global news, information sharing from continent to continent between seconds. Industry has gotten global awareness because of this.
Music has started to look better just because with data you can put up your craft be it music or painting or write ups or poems or comedy or pets or life to make people happy in a steady sinking world of frustrating conflicting governance and hustle.
You concern yourself with your perceived negatives over the objective positives. You are killing the future of Nigeria. You are killing the future of Nigeria. Internet is almost free in a lot of "advanced" countries too. Be careful Nigeria... don't ruin yourself. DON'T!!!

Why We Need N222 Billion To Conduct Nigeria’s 2018 Census – NPC Chairman
Eze Duruiheoma, Chairman, National Population Commission (NPC) said that
the planned 2018 National Population and Housing census will gulp N222
billion.
Mr. Duruiheoma said this on Tuesday in Akwanga, Nasarawa State at the review workshop of Phases 1 and 2 of Enumeration Area Demarcation (EAD) as well as training of the trainers for the 2018 census.
He said the fund would be used to conduct a scientific census that can stand the test of time despite the dwindling resources of the country.
The chairman explained that the budget had been spread over four years to handle different components of the census exercise.
Mr. Duruiheoma said the money was for procurement of hand-held devices for the biometric based census; engagement of 1. 5 million field staff; training of field officers and other preparatory activities.
He said the commission was not unaware of the concerns raised in some quarters about the affordability of the census budget.
Mr. Duruiheoma, however, noted that the benefit of the census to the nation outweigh immediate financial considerations.
“There is no better time to conduct a census than in this period of economic recession.
“Coming out of a recession is definitely a complex and difficult task that can be made easier through demographic data as a compass for economic revival Programme.
“Census will serve as a guide in identifying human elements that can be exploited for development process and formation of people responsive welfare Programme,” Mr. Duruiheoma said.
The NPC boss maintained that the EAD was the bedrock of the census and formed the basis for the planning and execution of the census project.
He explained that the EAD exercise involve the division of the country into small geographical areas to facilitate enumeration and scientifically verify doubts and contentions.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the EAD exercise is not the enumeration of persons living in the country and its outcome will not in any way determine the population of any community, local government or state,” he said.
He emphasized the need for the training the trainers exercise saying, “the quality of the personnel for the EAD has great impact on the outcome.”
Mr. Duruiheoma said the commission was not leaving any stone unturned in order to ensure that the EAD for the 2018 census was carried out meticulously, professionally and scientifically.
According to the NPC boss, the 2018 census would be free of manipulation through the EAD as it would be biometric based requiring the capture of finger prints and facial impression of persons during the exercise.
He said that the phase 3 of the EAD would be concluded by February 2017, when 74 local government areas in the country would have been completely demarcated.
Mr. Duruiheoma said it would involve two LGAs in each state and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT)
He added that other local government areas would be covered in subsequent phases depending on availability of funds.
He urged Nigerians not to treat census as an extension of politics driven by narrow political consideration at the expense of collective national interest.
Suleiman Hunkuyi, Chairman Senate Committee on National Population and Identity, in a remark, assured the NPC of the senate’s unflinching support to ensure the successful conduct of the 2018 census . (NAN)

Prices Of Foodstuff Forcefully Reduced In Ekiti
Ado Ekiti – Prices of foodstuff were forcefully reduced at markets in Ado
Ekiti on Tuesday by a taskforce led by the President of the Market
Women’s Association, Chief Omowaye Oso.
The team visited the Oja Oba and the Bisi Egbeyemi markets, both in the state capital.
Oso ordered the stoppage of foodstuff sold at exorbitant prices, after which, she personally sold to buyers at lower prices.
Buyers had accused the sellers of deliberately selling at excessive prices on the excuse of the non-appreciation of the American dollar.
Some of the commodities forced to sell at reduced prices included garri, beans, local rice and palm oil.
Consequent, a measure of garri, which used to sell for N200 was reduced to N100.
A 20-liter container of palm oil which sold at N22,000 was reduced to N15,000, while a measure of local rice, which initially sold at N500 was reduced to N400.
Oso said she had henceforth ordered that small measure of Okro and locust beans be sold at N20 as against N50.
She said the raid was supported by the state government and the Ewi of Ado Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe.
“Both the Ewi of Ado Ekiti and the state government are concerned about the exorbitant prices of goods and services in the town.
“The cost of goods, especially foodstuff, is too high in Ado Ekiti, whereas, as the state capital, prices of goods and services should be the cheapest here.
“The market men and women should have mercy on the poor because things are too expensive here, unlike other towns and villages in Ekiti State.
“It is very unfortunate that market women in other communities don’t want to sell at their places anymore; they now bring their wares to Ado, believing they will sell at twice the price of what they sell in their communities.
“As the Iyaloja, one of my responsibilities is to ensure price control of goods and today’s exercise shall be a continuous one and shall be repeated in all markets in Ado.
“It is unfortunate that 20 liters of palm oil which sells at N14,000 in Ikole is being sold at N22,000 in Ado, but we have sold it at N15,000.
“Ado is now developing a bad reputation for high prices of goods and services, but we will not allow this to continue; the Kabiyesi has said he does not want hardship for the people of Ado.
“We will continue to carry out our raids until our market women comply and anyone who cannot comply, must look elsewhere to sell her wares.
“If you can’t sell your palm oil at lower prices, don’t bring it down to Ado again,” she said.
NAN reports that buyers at the market and other residents commended the market raid, describing it as a respite to the poor and hungry people.

Why PDP Lost Edo, Ondo And May Lose Future Elections - Ali Sheriff Faction
The Ali Sheriff faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, said it
has identified impunity and lack of respect for the party’s constitution
and the rule of law as the major problems that led to the its failure
in the Edo and Ondo governorship elections.
Many have expressed the belief that the decision of Mr. Sheriff and his supporters to factionalise the PDP led to its failure in the elections.
The faction, at a media briefing on Monday in Abuja, however said the blame for the losses falls on three governors elected under the platform of the party.
Although the faction did not mention the names of the three governors, it has been engaged in running battles with governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State.
Monday’s press briefing, addressed by the Deputy National Chairman of the faction, Cairo Ojougbo, said ” in all these difficult times only three governors have been the architects of the destruction of the party”.
Mr. Ojougbo said only the governors of “Taraba, Gombe, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers and a few others have been very cooperative and are willing to let the party grow. They have shown maturity, understanding and sagacity in the affairs of the PDP.”
The Beginning of our Downfall
The Sheriff faction recalled that the impact of impunity in the PDP manifested itself for the first time in the 2011 general elections when the defunct Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, defeated the PDP in Nasarawa State.
“We had a sitting governor then who could not deliver. This was the first warning against impunity. It was ignored.
“Then in 2015 we had governors in Benue, Kogi, Niger, Jigawa, Plateau, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Bauchi and Adamawa. We lost in all these states for a common reason, the governors were not unpopular but they imposed their surrogates and the people voted them out. We paid for impunity,” Mr. Ojougbo said.
The faction argued that an analysis of the 2015 general election showed that all the ten states the party lost were in the northern part of the country, adding that even south-south states would not have survived if former President Goodluck Jonathan did not hail from the region. It said the figures that emanated from the south-east were also “abysmal”.
Mr. Ojougbo said the outcome of the 2015 election proved that although governors are very important in winning elections for a party, they do not necessarily determine the outcome.
“The running of the party should therefore not be left entirely to their whims and caprices. The party must have a say because party is supreme. In the case of Mimiko’s Ondo, the party was denied the valuable say,” he said.
The party leader also said that the faction had cried to all concerned ahead of the Edo election that the party hierarchy in the state was defective and that the Leadership needed to be changed “to allow the 60 stalwarts of the PDP who defected to APC return to the fold.”
“Of course the governors refused. There was no surprise to the result.
“In Ondo State, the script was written in 2013 when Governor Mimiko returned to PDP. All members he met on the ground left the party for him and he took over the PDP. The structure was handed over to the Labour Party.
“If Oke had not gone to AD and Mimiko managed leadership sportsmanly, PDP would have won the election convincingly.
“In the election, APC scored 244,842 votes while PDP scored 150,380 and AD scored 126,889 votes. It is a fact that the AD votes belong to PDP and the simple arithmetic shows why PDP lost; our votes went to Oke and AD,” he said.
He also said that when Mr. Mimiko returned to the PDP, his fellow governors appealed to him to allow for harmonization but he refused.
He said all the PDP members led by Olusola Oke therefore left the party.
Mr. Ojougbo said in choosing a candidate to succeed him, Mr. Mimiko did not allow original members of the PDP to buy forms.
“He mainly anointed Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) who was returned unopposed.
“Party members cried to the high heavens that Jegede is from the central zone where Mimiko hails from. Their cries fell on deaf ears,” he said.
He also said the primary election organised by the Sheriff faction had six participants which returned Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate.
“Jimoh hails from the South. He campaigned vigorously and convinced the people to vote for him. But alas Mimiko will not allow him carry the party flag.
“Mimiko used the instrumentality of state government to overwhelm Jimoh but could not overwhelm the masses and voters. Of course the result is out there for all to see,” he said.
Sheriff Independent of Buhari, APC
Mr. Ojougbo also said the accusation that Mr. Sheriff was doing the bidding of Nigeria’s ruling APC is not tenable.
He said it was PDP governors who invited Mr. Sheriff to be the chairman of the party.
He also said when he (Sheriff) assumed office, he put in place a committee to conduct a National Convention to “elect people of good character to run the affairs of the party”.
He added that Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State was appointed the chairman of the zoning committee.
“The Governors met and decided that Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff should continue in office.
The question is ‘was it Mr. President, General Buhari or the APC who sourced Senator Sheriff for the PDP’?
“Was it the APC who chaired the zoning committee that zoned chairmanship to Sheriff? The answer is No.
“We therefore call on all Nigerians to discountenance the idea that Sheriff is working for the APC. Sheriff was offered the senatorial ticket in the last general election after he left the APC. Senator Ali Modu Sheriff is a complete PDP faithful whose desire it is to reposition the party.
“Truth be told, Sheriff is insisting that power be returned to the people,” he said.
Mr. Ojougbo also spoke about the belief that Mr. Sheriff was a sponsor of the terrorist group, Boko Haram,
He said it is on record that when Mr. Sheriff was governor of Borno State, he suppressed and completely routed the Boko Haram.
“Boko Haram Killed 5 members of his family in the process of his fight against them.
“But when the current Governor of Borno State, Shettima, took over office, Boko Haram became emboldened, virulent and malignant.
“Note also that Shettima became governor because Boko Haram killed the man who was to be governor. His death paved way for the emergence of Shettima who willingly and deliberately encouraged Boko Haram.
“Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff has taken to court the Attorney General of Borno State who claimed that Sheriff is Boko Haram in Suit No. FCT/HC/CU/2494/2016 between Senator Dr. Ali Modu Sheriff vs. Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan and 3 others which is currently ongoing,” he said.
Mr. Ojougbo said although the faction does not comment on individuals, but “for the sake of the survival of the party we take exceptions to the utterances of Prince Adeyeye”.
He said Mr. Adeyeye, spokesperson of the Ahmed Makarfi PDP faction, is attacking Mr. Sheriff’s faction believing that he will be awarded the governorship ticket of Ekiti State.
The sheriff faction, however, warned that if the PDP is not restructured, even if he ( Adeyeye) is awarded the ticket “which we know Fayose will not do, it will be an exercise in futility and a waste of time like Eyitayo Jegede’s”.
Mr. Ojougbo said Mr. Sheriff is the agent of change for the PDP and multiparty democracy in Nigeria.
“Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff remains the only and authentic National Chairman of the PDP and the NWC remains the only administrative body authorized by law to run the party.”
He concluded the briefing by calling on all party members to unite or the PDP will be dead forever.

Toke Makinwa tells the story of how her parents died following a house fire at age 35 & 34
In her book, Toke Makinwa recalled the fire that claimed the lives of
her parents who were just 35 (dad) and 34 (mum) at the time of their
deaths. They died when Toke, their second child and one of four
children, was just 8 years old. The fire was caused by a gas cylinder
explosion at their home
"My dad had come out of the building smelling of burning rubber, putting out the fire on his shorts as he tried to explain what happened to a crowd that seemed to be getting bigger every minute. There was something I could taste in my mouth; it was fear. Fear gripped me and I could barely move. In movies, you sometimes see a scene with someone burning from head to toe. Everyone ran back trying to figure out who it was. It took a moment to realise it was my mum. I stood glued to the spot watching her burn."You need to get the book to read the whole story. Quite riveting! This lady has gone through so much

21 Tips To Make Distinction In All Your Courses As A Nigerian Undergraduate
I decided to write this post for the purpose of granting the request of
one of the readers of this blog, an undergraduate of university of
Benin. He wanted a guide on how to make distinction in all his courses.
As much as he’s going to benefit from this article, I also believe you
will benefit immensely if you are currently undergoing an academic
program in any institution of higher learning. The ideas and academic
success principles I am about to share with you are what I have
personally applied and have seen worked for other high-flying students I
met in the course of my academic journey from primary school to the
university level.
What to do to make distinction in your courses include the following:
1. Desire to Make Distinction in All Your Courses Badly: Every achievement in life begins with a DESIRE. If you must make distinction in all your courses, you must have a BURNING desire to achieve that feat. With a burning desire, you will be able to go through every pain and stress necessary to birth your distinctions. When you are faced with obstacles, a burning desire for academic success will propel you to focus on solutions rather than problems. It will keep you going.
2. Write down your goal: Your goal here is to make distinction in all your courses. It is not enough to just have it on your head that you want to make distinction in all your courses, it is important you write it down in your personal journal. Writing down your goals makes them appear tangible and achievable. It is essential that you paste it where you can see it every day. You can paste it beside your mirror or somewhere in your room.
The first thing I always do once I resume for a new term when I was in secondary is to make a list of all my subjects and write the grades I want to have in all. I did same too when I was an undergraduate. The result is that my mates marvel at my academic performance. Some folks in my secondary school days, especially when I was in J.S.S 1 taught I was not ordinary, because they could not imagine how I achieved the feat of making A’s in virtually all my subjects. The reason lies in the fact that I decided to make A’s in all my subjects and I know that if it must be, I must have certain amount of mark in each subject to attain the goal, so I put in the needed effort to achieve my goal. I went on to be among the top 10 graduating students in secondary school out of over 200 hundred students, and graduated with a second class upper from the university. Without academic goals, you can hardly be an outstanding student.
3. Get the course outline of all the courses for the semester: what will be your class of degree, whether a first class, second class upper, second class lower, third class or ordinary pass at the end of your degree program is a combination of your performances in all the semesters that constitute your degree program. Your ultimate success will be determined by the success of each semester. If you can endeavor to do well one semester at a time, you will come out with a satisfactory class of degree, at least a minimum of second class upper.
To have a successful semester, the first thing to do is to get the course outline for all your courses. Everything you are expected to know for the semester is in the course outline, and its content is where your test and examination questions will be drawn from. It is an essential tool that you must have.
4. Get the materials for all your courses: In higher institutions in Nigeria, lecturers usually prepare handout for the course they are taking, and each student is expected to get a copy of the handout, so that they can have access to the components of the course. If you want to make distinction, it essential you get all the materials for your courses. Buy all the recommended handouts and text books for the semester. If you can’t afford them, borrow from those who bought and make photocopy, it is cheaper.
5. Attend lectures regularly: if you want to make distinction in all your courses, it is imperative that you attend lectures. When you are in class, listen to the lecturer. Compare his teachings to the content of the course material. There are some lecturers that teach so many things that you won’t find in the course material, while some teach word for word of what is in the course material. Now, for the lecturers whom you cannot predict what they teach based on their course material, it is essential that you attend their class, in fact don’t miss their class, if making distinction is your goal.
Some brilliant students don’t believe in attending lectures because they believe they can always read, and assimilate the content of the course materials and pass exam. What do you think would happen if most questions are set out of the content of the course material or if the lecturer expects students to answer certain questions based on the explanation he gave in class? Such students no matter how brilliant they are won’t make a distinction in that course. I once failed a course that way. I got to the examination hall only to see questions whose answers can never be found in the course material.
If you must boycott any lecturer’s class, let it be the class of a lecturer whose teaching can be predicted based on the course material. Without attending his class, you will pass if you study the course material properly.
Another reason why it is essential to attend lectures is because of continuous assessment. Continuous assessment is the combination of your class attendance, your contribution in class, assignments and test coupled with the final examination score. Not attending classes will make you lose some mark which may cost you a distinction in that course.
6. Read, Read and Read: If you don’t like reading, you may not be able make distinction in all your courses. You must be ready to read. Try to know the studying method that work best for you and the best time of the day that you can assimilate things faster. To some, their prime time is early in the morning, some prefer afternoon while some get the best out of studies when they study at night. It is your responsibility to know the reading method, and time of the day that works best for you.
If you must make distinction in all your courses, it is imperative that you cover all the components or content of your course outline. It is essential that you read your course material(s) from cover to cover, and digest them properly.
7. Get Past question papers: Research shows that about 50% of questions set for candidates during examination can be found in past question papers of that particular course or subject. Past question paper is a powerful tool you will need to excel in any course. Make effort to get the past question papers of all your courses as early as possible, and learn to use them as the semester progresses. Study the way the lecturer structures his questions, and apply it as you study his course material. Frame questions based on his pattern of setting question for all the contents of the course material, and learn to answer them in the best way possible.
8. Do your assignment and submit promptly: Assignment, whether individual or group is one of the components of continuous assessment. Failure to do and submit your assignment may cost you a distinction, no matter how brilliant you are. For this reason, cooperate with your lecturer by doing your assignment as soon as possible and submit when expected.
9. Always prepare for impromptu test: There are days you will go for lectures as usual, only for the lecturer to tell you to get a sheet of paper, write your name and matriculation number, and your course code. The next thing you will see is questions on the board. If you didn’t anticipate such test, you will be thrown off balance. And if you fail such test due to lack of preparation, that may cost you a distinction. To avoid such failure, I suggest that as soon as you are getting to the middle of the semester, you should always expect test any time you are going for lectures and always prepare in advance.
10. Find out the marking style of the lecturers: if you want to make a distinction in a course, it is important you know the way the lecturer expects students to answer his questions. Some lecturers want you to give them verbatim what they taught you or what are in their course material, while others want you to come up with something out of the box but still in line with what you were taught. Having this knowledge and answering his questions based on his expectation will earn you your distinction without stress. You can get this information from senior colleagues who have passed through the lecturer.
11. Prepare adequately for examination: At the end of every semester, you are going to write exam in all the courses for that semester. If you have followed the previous instructions, you will definitely be prepared for the final exam. You must make adequate preparation for the exam. Adequate preparation include, covering the course outline, reading all the recommended course materials, reading the note taken in class during lectures and practicing past questions.
12. Don’t miss the revision class prior to exam: Examination is never a battle between the lecturers and students. It is the joy of every good teacher to see that his students excel at the end of the semester.
During final revision that precedes examination, the teacher most often do their best to give students hints on possible areas that questions are likely to come out from. Prior to this time, they have set their questions, and submitted them to the faculty management.
By being attentive to what the lecturer says in the revision class, you will have a glimpse of possible questions to be expected and areas you need to focus on in the course material or lecturer’s note. Missing such class can cost you a distinction.
13. Choose your friends wisely: it is important to note that the people with whom you associate as a student play a very big role in your academics. You must make effort to relate with students who are serious minded; students who have burning desire for unlimited academic success. These set of students would challenge and motivate you to be up and doing. Associating will them with keep you alert and help you to focus on your academic goals. Always remember that “he that walks with the wise shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.” It is better to be a loner as a student than to be in the company of unserious folks. Choose your friends wisely!
5 Things to Do On the Examination Day
The examination day is the day to reap every effort you have been making right from day one of the semester, so if you make any mistake that day, you may end up losing your reward. I suggest that you do the following five things on the examination day.
14. Be early to the exam venue: It is essential you get to the exam hall or venue at least fifteen minutes before the exam commences. This will give you the opportunity to relax and get your mind ready for the exam.
15. Go with all the needed examination kit: This may include your pen, mathematical set, your Id card, and everything you will be in need of in the examination hall. Don’t go to the exam hall with the plan of borrowing anything you will need. Doing so will slow you down, and can even cost you your distinction.
16. Write your name and matriculation number where they are needed: There have been cases where students submit answer booklet and forget to write their name and matriculation number. To avoid this mistake, write your name, matriculation number, and course code as soon as you get your answer booklet.
17. Read the instructions thoroughly and comprehend them before you solve the questions: Take note of the instructions in your question paper and solve the questions in obedience to them. Most often, examiners use such words as list, state, enumerate, discuss, explain, and define and so on. You are expected to answer the questions based on the command or instruction given in the question paper. Disobedience to instruction due to error in understanding the instructions or answering the question in a way that is not consistent with the instructions simply to show the lecturer that you are brilliant can cause you fail.
18. Write legibly: If you have a bad handwriting, such that only you can read your work, you will fail no matter how brilliant you are. When writing examination, write in such a way, that even a blind man can read what you write. When you give the right answers using clear and legible hand writing, you can never be denied of distinction.
19. Work with time: Duration of time is always allotted to examination; it is your duty to make sure you answer as many as possible questions within the time given. If you know the answers but too slow to solve all the questions before the time elapses, you will lose your chances of making a distinction. What you need here is speed and accuracy.
20. Revise your answers before submitting: Don’t be in a rush to submit. Nobody is given a distinction for being the first to submit. Check your work properly; make corrections where necessary before you submit. And when submitting, make sure you submit in the right place because there are cases where students of different levels write exam simultaneously in the same hall. The school management often makes such arrangement in an attempt to curb examination malpractices. It will be a great mistake to have your script mixed up with a different group of students due to your own error. This kind of mistake is probably why some students do have missing script issue. Once again, make sure you submit where you should submit.
21. Keep praying till you see your result: You have done your best, now it is time to leave the rest to God. The kind of prayer you should pray is left to you. You must have it in mind that God will help you only when you have helped yourself by following the instructions in this article.

#ONDOkopas - Filthy Toilet And Bathroom At Ondo NYSC Camp (Photo)
New members of the National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) to Ondo State,
shared these eyesore that is supposed to be their toilet and bathroom at

GSM Subscribers To Pay More For Data From Dec.1 (1.5gig To Be N3000 Now)
Executive Vice-Chairman, Nigeria Communications Commission, Prof. Umar Dambatta
Subscribers of the Global System of Mobile telecommunications across the country would pay more for data with effect from December 1, 2016, The PUNCH learnt on Monday.
Although the telecoms companies declined to speak on the matter, top management workers across the networks confirmed the story to our correspondent, saying that the directive was from the Nigerian Communications Commission.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, a senior management employee of Etisalat Nigeria said, “The NCC issued the directive late last week on the orders of the Federal Government. We have not announced it yet because most of the major telcos have been meeting the NCC on how to reverse this policy, because it will be too harsh for Nigerians.
“However, we further gathered that the Federal Government took the decision having discovered that data rates are very low-priced in Nigeria, compared to other countries, including nearby African countries.
“The government might have also taken the decision given that Nigerian subscribers have been kicking against the proposed nine per cent Communication Tax, whose bill is currently in the National Assembly.”
Pleading not to be mentioned, an employee of MTN said, “What this means is that MTN, Airtel, Etisalat And Globacom will increase their data rates as from December 1, 2016. A data plan of N1,000 for 1.5 Gigabytes will now be increased to N3,000 at N1,000 per 500 Megabytes.”
In text messages sent out to its subscribers, MTN, Africa’s mobile telecommunications giant, confirmed that it had agreed to implement the directive of the NCC.
The MTN text read, “Dear customer, please be informed that from 1st of December, some MTN data tariffs will be increased to reflect the new rates set by the NCC for operators. Thank you.”
The PUNCH could not obtain an official response from the NCC at of the time of filing this report.
However, a representative of the commission said that the telecoms regulator was unaware of such plans by the operators, even as she said her bosses had claimed ignorance of the circulated message.
“We are unaware of it. I just asked my bosses; they are unaware. We will forward your query to MTN for appropriate attention,” she said over the telephone.
However, in a letter by the NCC to the operators sighted by our correspondent, the commission stated, “This rate will subsist pending the finalisation of the study on the determination of cost-based pricing for retail broadband and data services in Nigeria.
“In order to provide a level playing field for all operators in the industry, small operators and new entrants to acquire market share and operate profitably, small operators and new entrants are hereby exempted from the price floor for data services.”
It added, “For the avoidance of doubt a small operator is one that has less than 7.5 per cent market share and a new entrant is an operator that has operated less than three years in the market.
“All operators are to ensure that subscribers are not automatically migrated to pay-as-you-go platform.
“Also, note that effective date for the interim price floor is December 1, 2016.”
Reacting to the development, the President, National Association of Telecommunications Subscribers, Mr. Adeolu Ogunbanjo, said that the NCC representative was being economical with the truth.
He said that for MTN to have sent out millions of text messages to its subscribers “clearly shows that the NCC indeed issued the directive.”
Ogunbanjo, however, said that the association would resist the tariff hike, adding, “We will challenge it in court. We are going right away to set the machinery in motion. We are also going to do an urgent letter to the NCC Executive Vice Chairman, Prof. Umar Danbatta, which we will drop in his e-mail box.
“Unfortunately, the notice is short; today is November 28, yet the order will take effect from December 1. It is not just good for broadband penetration, whatever the reason may be. It is against telecoms subscribers.”
According to him, data availability means more youth engagement because they use data to develop apps and build software.
“But with what the NCC has done, these boys who develop apps will be slowed down and limited. The cost of doing business will also increase,” he added.
