Seven Categories Of Corps Members You Will Find In Any Orientation Camp. - NYSC - Nairaland

I dedicate this THREAD to ALL 9jakopas corpers currently serving using Ghost lady as a point of contact to all others and to those also who have a dream to serve their fatherland someday...

So I had this flashback of those days as a Corper (Agunbaniro Jesu cheesy)

I could still remember the excitement we all had enroute our Orientation Camp... We have heard more than enough, it was time to go experience it smiley

Back To The Topic: cheesy:

With the euphoria of excitement in the camp then, I can now succinctly categorized all "OTONDOs" into SEVEN.

1. The Married Woman

These ones are very nice. If you are a friend to them, you'll be taken care of. They just need someone around them and you offered yourself... They'll tell their husband about you, he'll even call you and thank you sef... cheesy
They can talk sha o...

2. The Rich boy

This one, if it were possible, he would come to camp with his jeep. However, he is there as a Big Boy- Always in Mammy Market with a group of friends eating and drinking.

3. The Comedian

You can tell from afar that he's a Warri guy grin. In his hostel, it's never a dull moment with him around. Sure, he is popular. Sometimes, he is made the leader of the Platoon wink...

4. The Girl Mongers

This guy is always on the look out for ladies because he is just a Womanizer wink. Birds of a feather flock together so he has a group of Girl Chasers. They're the type whom girls live on while their own alawee remains untouched grin.

5. The Career Guy

This guy is a serious guy! He is in MDGs already from camp. He doesn't miss any Career Talk...He has flair for career stuff... He has a vision of building a market in his PPA so he could win the President's award...

6.The Hot and Beautiful

Girls, Girls, Girls... She and her crew are always together with their white short like a bum short... Theirs is just different... Their white shirt is a body hug...You wonder, are these Corps members like us? Lol...
They work their way to be posted to State Capital. How? ( No be my mouth you go hear that one oo) The funny aspect is that, they're just too shy to participate in any event for their platoon, especially the Beauty Contest...

7. The Religious Folks

NCCF, NACC and MCAN...ohh...Jehavah Witness too.... These sets are in camp not to "enjoy" the excitement per se but to win souls and please God...They look forward to becoming Leaders of the fellowships in their various PPAs as their Predecessors passes out...

Though, NYSC did hurt us in some ways, but looking back now brings this nostalgic feeling on me... It was fun! We had a good time, met interesting people, learnt amazing things...in the Orientation Camp and also in our PPAs...

I believe you met a different set of friends.

Where do you or your friends fall? wink

You can add more smiley

Comedians thrill guests at DPO Live 2014

IT was a fun-filled evening as comedians took turns on stage to treat guests to a dose of laughter by giving them rib-cracking jokes. The event was the maiden edition of DPO Live (Director of People’s Occasions). The gospel comedy event, which was held at the Harvest Place, Maryland, Lagos, witnessed top comedians gracing the stage, including Owen G, Koffi, Lepacious Bose, Emeka Smith, Baba De Baba, Headmaster and Funny Bone.
The nation’s crisis featured prominently at the show as the comedians tried to render jokes about it. But it was clear they also desired the nation found ways to get over the crisis for young people to find fulfillment in what they do.
Host comedian, DPO, said the purpose of the event was to make entertainment a platform where he could reach out to the youths and the government positively, adding, “We understand the problems we face as a nation and I want to use this medium as my way of taking Nigeria to a greater height”.
Owen G, however, noted that DPO is a patient boy, one who is willing to learn at anytime, saying,
“DPO is one who has matured in the last two years that I have known him, willing to learn and whom I have been able to share creative ideas with”.
While commenting on the development of the comedy industry, Owen G said, “It is obvious the comedy industry is going big; we are a group of guys who just hold the microphone and talk to earn a living. There is no studio work, music or backup singer and we make people happy.
“As comedians, we find positivity in negativity. I often define humour as a true way to finding happiness in the mist of sadness. The best comedians are those who can turn sad moments to happy ones and that is what we creative comedians do”.
While describing the host, Koffi said DPO is a very distinguished comedian that is yet to be discovered, adding, “He takes his humor from places that you least expect; he is a young act who is very humble, not in a hurry and he takes his time and knows that everything about life is about time. Other young people will copy jokes to become recognized which they can’t maintain, but he maintains his original content. I am impressed that at this very young stage, he has been able to pull this crowd”.
On his style of rendering jokes, Koffi maintained, “It’s my style to give advice; I can’t just sit back and watch things go wrong despite the fact that we are social commentators. Right now we are the classroom, entertainment is teaching the kids what to see and say and each one of us is a subject and if we only just do the humorous banters, we are not doing our job. A vocation is respected when it adds value to society, and so we are supposed to make comments that will change the thought process of people”.

No corper ’ll be lost to election –NYSC

Exactly one month to the commencement of the forthcoming general elections, the National Youth Service Corps has assured Nigerians that no corps member will be lost to post-election violence, as was the case in some parts of northern Nigeria after the 2011 polls.
The organisation said it had commenced sensitisation programme for community leaders in some areas, that were prone to violence, to educate them that corps members were neither politicians nor members of staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. Johnson Olawunmi, made this known in an interview with journalists on Tuesday in Abuja, after declaring open the 9th edition of the War Against Poverty, a training programme of the Federal Government for corps members.
“I am sure, Insha Allah, that at the end of the 2015 elections, we will not lose a single corps member,” he stressed.
About 400 corps members are benefiting from the training which was jointly organised by the NYSC and the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Millennium Development Goals, headed by Dr. Precious Gbeneol.
The NYSC director said, “You all know it that corps members have become part of the electoral process in Nigeria and one thing that is certain is that since corps members have started taking part in elections in Nigeria, you will all accept and agree with me that our elections have continued to get credibility more than it used to be before we started participating.
“On what we are doing as far as their safety and security are concerned, we have put a lot of measures in place. Some will be done before the election, some on election day and some immediately after the election. This principally involves training, sensitisation, collaborating with all the relevant agencies in terms of security for corps members on the day of the election.
“We have even gone beyond that. We are already discussing with community leaders, engaging them and letting them realise that these are their children who are just serving the country and are not INEC members of staff; they are just serving their country.”
“We are also letting them understand that that as they have corps members in their own communities, their own children are also in other communities doing that. So, I’m sure at the end of the 2015 elections, we will not lose a single corps member.”

Inadequate Funding, SMEDAN’s Major Challenge – Masari

Bature Umar Masari is the director-general of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN). In this interview with PEMBI DAVID-STEPHEN, he talks about the activities of the agency, its achievements and challenges, saying SMEDAN’s major challenge remains the issue of inadequate funding.
What is the mandate of SMEDAN?
Over the years, since 2003 when the agency was established, it has been doing a lot in the area of enterprise creation and development, and identifying Nigerians who are interested in entrepreneurship creation and development; and providing training in entrepreneurship and vocational skills, so that Nigerians can be equipped to go into entrepreneurship creation and development. There are a lot of activities going on in the agency nationwide, and we have been able to ensure decentralisation of the activities of the agency in all the states of the federation, with offices in the six geo-political zones in the country. We did this so that our personnel can operate closely with their populace in the rural areas, who mostly need our intervention. We have equally increased the tempo of our activities in the area of entrepreneurship creation and vocational skills acquisition, especially with the introduction of National Enterprise Development Programme (NEDP). It’s an idea initiated by our minister, Dr. Olusegun Aganga, to ensure a holistic development of MSMEs in the country.
